Foxtrot Search Server For Mac

SearchMac

I now have over 9TB of files on my NAS and need to be able to search the files quickly and from multiple computers. I am mainly on OSX and it no longer indexes network drives and even if it did, each laptop would have to update it's index individually and only when connected. I would like an app on DSM that indexes all of the files, that I can use to search while logged in to DSM. It would be even better if I also had an OSX app that can connect to that index and search using it. I would want to be able to set a schedule as to when it updates the index and which folders and files types to include/exclude.

Foxtrot search does similar, but I would have to have have it running on a PC or Mac permanently connected to the NAS running the server software and then connect to it using the app on my laptop. A good scenario would be to just have a DSM specific version of foxtrot server.

What is FoxTrot Search Server? Extending the client-server features contained in FoxTrot Professional Search, FoxTrot Search Server enables organizations to deploy faceless indexing and search services either on a file server itself or on a machine indexing files across a network.

FoxTrot Search Server can run on standard (non-server) or Server versions of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, 10.6 Snow Leopard or 10.5 Leopard. Additional suitable platforms with certain limitations are Windows 7, Vista and Windows XP. In all cases, the administration of FoxTrot Search Server is performed from a Mac OS X 10.6 or 10.5 application supplied with the server. Although file sharing is required for preview and secondary search within documents, text-only search and retrieval is possible even without having mounted a file server volume.

Version 6.5.2: Important notes:. FoxTrot 6 is a paid upgrade for users of version 5 and earlier. Version 6.5 introduces an updated index format. Indices created by version 6.0.4, and used without rebuilding with version 6.5, should remain compatible if you revert to version 6.0.4. However if you rebuild your index with version 6.5, you will need to rebuild it again in version 6.0 if you revert / downgrade to version 6.0.4. Client/Server bug fix (FoxTrot Pro multi-user and FoxTrot Search Server):.

Fixed a case where connecting to a FoxTrot server would ask the user to trust the server's certificate, even if the certificate is already trusted. This was only occurring on macOS 10.13, when connecting to the server by specifying its hostname, and if the server was not using a CA-issued certificate. More detailed error logging if connecting to a FoxTrot Server fails due to a certificate or TLS problem. Miscellaneous minor bug fixes and improvements.
